UNDERSTANDING GOVERNMENT

“Understanding Government: Improving Institutional Transparency and Accountability Through Open Data” is a project funded by the Balkan Trust for Democracy and implemented by Open Data Kosovo.

This project aimed to equip citizens or the civil society at large, as well as the media with the necessary tools to leverage open data for increasing transparency and accountability of public institutions and fostering citizen engagement in policy-making. This was done through a series of workshops with government officials, technical support to public data release and use by public institutions, and data usage training for journalists. All of these activities were designed as an integrated strategy aimed at improving institutional transparency and accountability in Kosovo through fostering the ability of government officials, civil society, citizens, and media to understand and productively utilize public data. This project was funded by the Balkan Trust for Democracy and implemented by Open Data Kosovo. Most of the activities included five day training for governmental officials, five days for journalism and five days of training for students of journalism. Moreover a handbook for data usage for governmental officials and a guidebook for journalism was produced in order to increase transparency and accountability through open data as well as in writing articles, respectively.
