OPEN DATA MEETUP GJAKOVA

This local meet-up on the topic on Open Data which bring transaprency and development in a society.

The opening of data is based on the idea that data in whatever form should be available for all. IN most cases, open data can be reused and republished, without any limitations from author’s rights, patents or other control mechanisms.

For this and more, the speakers at these meet-up will share their perspective on open data and how they have incorporated this into their work. The speakers were as follows:

Starting from discussion with Mimoza Kusari Lila – Mayor of Gjakova, Fidan Kalajan, Georges L. J. Labrèchen, and the workshop with Thomas Levine (coming from FLOSSK Free Libre Open Source Software Kosova), who shared insights on how to analyze PDFs on open data and more.

EC SHLIRE PROMOTION EVENT

EcShlirë (#WalkFreely) public discussion on “Gender Equality and Reporting Sexual Harassment” was held at the Municipal Assembly of Gjakova with the aim to shed light on the EcShlirë application .

Our panelists were:
– Aulonë Memeti, Cat Callers in Kosovo Initiative.
– Jeta Berisha, Journalist.
– Kosovare B. Sahatqija, Open Data Kosovo.
– Rreze Abdullahu, Psychologist and Feminist.
– Representative from Kosovo Police.

Ec Shlirë was an initiative implemented by Open Data Kosovo, Girls Coding Kosova, and Kosova Women’s Network. This event is made possible thanks to the support of Fondacioni “Unë e du Kosovën.”

TECHSTITUTION – DIGITALISATION OF INSTITUTIONS EVENT

The event was organized to showcase the platform that was developed as part of the Techstitution project, for the Regulatory Authority of Electronic and Postal Communication.

This platform aims to help telecommunications companies register at RAEPC. This was done te help the institutions digitize their services, and thus turn to a more efficient way of hanfdling various requests.

Techstitution is project made possible by funding from the UNICEF Kosovo Programme.

Open Data Kosovo thanks RAEPC for their collaboration during the developement of the platform.

HOUR OF CODE 2017

The Hour of Code is a global movement introducing tens of millions of students worldwide to computer science, inspiring kids to learn more, breaking stereotypes, and leaving them feeling empowered.

Former president Atifete Jahjaga joined the initiative to become the first state official to write the first line of code. It symbolically puts the spotlight on computer science programs and development opportunities it might bring to Kosovo.

We want to inspire all to be at the forefront of future technology-not just by consuming it, but by creating it.

TECHSPERIENCE NETWORKING

This event was held with the aim to inform the interested parties to the prototypes that have been developed by the Techsperience trainees in order to tackles labour challenges.

Specifically, the digital solution prototypes were developed to analyze labour market information with the aim to help youngsters in the job search process.

Tech-enthusiasts were present who shared their thoughts in regards to the above-mentioned issues.

Techsperience is funded by The Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zussammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and implemented by Open Data Kosovo.

TECHSPERIENCE CELEBRATORY + SHOWCASE EVENT

ODK gathered young people from the tech community to celebrate the #Techsperience trainees for their successful learning and showcased their prototypes.

A special thanks goes to Kosova Women’s Network for teaming up with us during the search for talented youngsters and making sure we inspire young girls to break glass ceilings in the field of ICT.

Our community is growing day by day and we couldn’t feel more proud of them. Let’s build a more transparent, accountable, tech future together!

PRISHTINA OPEN CONTRACTS PLATFORM LAUNCH

At Prishtina’s Municipal Assembly Hall, Open Data Kosovo’s executive director, Blerta Thaci, together with the mayor of the Municipality of Prishtina, Mr. Shpend A. Ahmeti, the deputy director of Unicef Kosovo Programme, Mr. James Mugaju, and the deputy mayor of Prishtina, Mr. Muhedin Nushi, introduced the platform which enables open contracts for the citizens of Prishtina according to the international open data standards.

The “open contracts” platform includes data about the realization of contracts which are presented in real time and enable citizens to be informed about the contracts’ status, such as: when the contract expires, what is the current status or how much the economic operator is paid.

TREGOGJELBER LAUNCH

TregoGjelber.org platform was launched during the “Effective Waste Management and Recycling Solutions in Kosovo” panel hosted by European Union Kosovo!
TregoGjelber is a result of #Tech4Policy, a project which identifies the problems of municipalities around Kosovo, and through the training of young women, aims to solve them with digital solutions.
After our close work with different NGOs, together with Let’s Do It Kosova we decided to focus on the illegal dumpings around Kosovo.
The platform’s purpose is not only to identify the locations of illegal dumpings but to raise awareness and equip institutions and NGOs with the necessary tools to work toward a cleaner environment. For more, check out our platform: TregoGjelber.org

CELEBRATORY EVENT – TECH4POLICY FINALISTS

The three winning teams of #Tech4Policy were selected have benefited around 20,000 EUR to fully develop the digital solutions they proposed for local municipalities around Kosovo.
During their intensive workshop phase, these three groups have proposed the most innovative solutions that leverage modern technologies for contributing to social good.
In addition, the nine young women are working on their first real project in a very innovative work/practice mix. We are very excited to have signed with them their first ever contracts as for the next four months they will be sharing our offices and working closely with our team and mentors to advance their skills and design platforms to best benefit their community.
